Aktor kelahiran Owensboro, Kentucky, Amerika Serikat, 9 Juni 1963 yang terlahir dengan nama John Christopher Depp II ini selalu memainkan beraneka ragam tokoh-tokoh dengan sifat-sifat yang berbeda. Johnny memerankan Willy Wonka, pemilik perusahaan cokelat dalam Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Pada tahun 2004 Johnny bermain dalam film thriller psikologi Secret Window yang merupakan adaptasi dari novel dengan judul yang sama karangan Stephen King. Sutradara Tim Burton untuk kali ketiga mengajak dia bermain dalam Alice in Wonderland sebagai Mad Hatter.
